Last Friday, during the Nine Days, gedolei Yisroel shlita on the presidential board of Mifal HaShas HaOlami held their annual meeting. They addressed issues of critical importance to the Torah world and devoted their time to arranging study programs for the thousands of Torah scholars in Mifal HaShas, which was founded three decades ago by the Tzanzer Rebbe at the advice of one of the luminaries of the generation.


Seminary Placements will Not be Conducted by Municipal Committees

The Education Ministry's demand — which goes against the firmly held position of gedolei Yisroel shlita — to set up seminary placement committees run by municipalities and overseen by the Education Ministry suddenly became superfluous when principals took over and completed the task of arranging the placement.


Stone with Rare Menorah Engraving Found Near Temple Mount

A rare menorah engraving was found on a stone object and a sword from the period of the destruction of the Second Temple. The discovery was made shortly before Tisha B'Av during the course of excavation work by the Antiquities Authority on the ancient drainage channel in Jerusalem, which leads from the Shiloach Pool via the City of David to the archaeological garden alongside the Kosel Maarovi.


Rabbi Yisroel Spiegel zt"l

Hundreds of Jerusalemites, led by gedolei Torah, roshei yeshivos, admorim and rabbonim were on hand on Motzei Shabbos to lay to rest Rabbi Yisroel Spiegel zt"l, who handed down the untainted Torah hashkofoh he received from his rabbonim over the course of decades, from prominent Chortkov-Rozhin chassidim. He returned his soul to his Maker at the age of 77, following a difficult illness.

On the afternoon of August 9, 2001 a terrorist carrying a guitar case filled with explosives entered the Sbarro restaurant in Jerusalem and detonated a bomb killing or wounding over 100 victims. Among the dead was Mrs. Shoshana Greenbaum.
