Tzanzer Rebbe: Avreichim Should Set Aside Time for Learning with Less Accomplished Lomdei Torah

by A. Cohen

Last Friday, during the Nine Days, gedolei Yisroel shlita on the presidential board of Mifal HaShas HaOlami held their annual meeting. They addressed issues of critical importance to the Torah world and devoted their time to arranging study programs for the thousands of Torah scholars in Mifal HaShas, which was founded three decades ago by the Tzanzer Rebbe at the advice of one of the luminaries of the generation.

At the meeting HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman shlita gave enthusiastic support for efforts to strengthen the Torah world through Mifal HaShas programs. The opening speech was given by the Admor of Tzanz, who spoke about the fabulous results Mifal HaShas has achieved over the years and the major contribution it has made to the light of Torah.

He called on Mifal HaShas participants to set aside some time, on a daily basis, to study with someone at a lower level. "Every [avreich] should devote an hour or a similar amount of time, depending on his ability, like, for example, our practice at our yeshiva in Kiryat Tzanz," he said. "One-tenth of one's learning time should be spent studying with or giving shiurim to those at a lower level of learning, in order to strengthen him. One should not assume it suffices to study with chavrusas at his same level."
