The wave of threats continued on Tuesday, when rabbonim and public figures in Jerusalem and Bnei Brak received envelopes that contained an unidentified powder and letters filled with offensive remarks.
Recently threatening letters with a suspicious substance were sent to the offices of chareidi MKs and Minister Eli Yishai.
Kadima and Opposition Chairwoman MK Livni remarked, "I've heard that chareidi MKs received envelopes with threats and racist insults. As someone who has sharp differences of opinion with them, I would like to say that these acts must be condemned outright."
Knesset Speaker MK Reuven Rivlin also denounced the incitement against the chareidi public and the threatening letters.
"I want to touch on the issue of a serious threat against Members of Knesset, and this time a threat against chareidi Members of Knesset through various substances, threats and instigation, and which in some instances has even included threats against the entire chareidi public," said Rivlin. "I am opposed to all threats against any segments of the population represented here in the Knesset. I am earnestly asking the entire public to show restraint and am asking chareidi MKs to show composure, not by being indifferent to these threats, but at the same time not stirring quarrels with those who are not a partner to the threat. I ask that everyone show restraint."
Rivlin's statement came after both Deputy Health Minister MK Rabbi Yaakov Litzman and Interior Minister Eli Yishai received threats and screeds at their Knesset offices. MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni and MK Rabbi Uri Maklev received identical letters on Sunday.
