Stiff Opposition to New Directives on Yeshiva Inspections

By Yechiel Sever

The Presidential Board of Vaad Hayeshivos, led by prominent roshei yeshivos and gedolei Yisroel shlita, met Monday night at the Vaad offices in Jerusalem, with the backing of Maran HaRav Eliashiv shlita, to discuss various issues, including the recent decrees issued by government ministries regarding inspections of the holy yeshivas.

Maranan verabbonon spoke out sharply against the degrading new directives sent to yeshiva directors and roshei yeshivos, and called on the government to revert to the previous system of inspections that have been in practice for all state institutions.

In attendance at the meeting were Board members HaRav Shmuel Auerbach, HaRav Boruch Mordechai Ezrachi, HaRav Moshe Yehuda Shlesinger, HaRav Yehuda Addas, HaRav Shaul Alter, HaRav Chaim Katz and Vaad Hayeshivos Secretary Rav Osher Tannenbaum, who delivered the opening remarks and announced the agenda.

HaRav Nosson Tzvi Finkel and HaRav Aviezer Piltz, who were unable to attend, sent a message encouraging the participants to faithfully defend the holy yeshivas.
