Binat Halev and Merkaz Hachinuch Hold ADHD Workshop

by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Some 100 educators, caretakers and consultants from Binat Halev and Merkaz Hachinuch, which is headed by roshei yeshivos and rabbonim, were on hand for the first in a series of workshops held at Beit Yisroel Halls in Jerusalem. The workshop, which was co-sponsored by Merkaz Netiv, focused on ADHD.

On the first day of the workshop HaRav Yehuda Leib Auerbach, the nationwide supervisor of Merkaz Hachinuch and Binat Halev, greeted the caretaker staff and consultants, saying, "The issue of attention deficit was chosen for very good reasons. All those who treat ADHD have invariably encountered on numerous occasions people for whom this problem is the source of a range of problems. Since the biggest mitzvah is Torah study, this problem plays a very central role in the individual's life, for `they are our lives and the length of our days.'

"With this in mind, we chose to focus on ADHD in order to study and succeed in seeing to it that the children of someone who received treatment do not have to come to us to rectify the damage that can be done to them due to the father's behavior, and most of all so that in our work at Merkaz Hachinuch we are able to identify the problem before it's too late and to refer people to treatment at a young age, thereby sparing them a lot of suffering later in life."
