UTJ Faction in Jerusalem City Council Boycotts Tour of Kiryat Yovel

By Yechiel Sever

The United Torah Judaism faction in the Jerusalem City Council decided this week to boycott Mayor Nir Barkat's tour of the Kiryat Yovel neighborhood after noting that his daily schedule update sent to City Council members was riddled with false, provocative statements from the neighborhood's Community Administration.

The Kiryat Yovel Community Administration has regularly pursued antagonistic actions against the neighborhood's chareidi sector, which now has hundreds of families living in the south Jerusalem neighborhood.

After the faction members voiced their objections at City Hall, prolonged discussions were held with the Mayor's Office staff. UTJ demanded the provocative remarks be removed from Barkat's official schedule, but when the Mayor's Office refused to make any changes, UTJ opted to boycott the tour of the neighborhood and even called on all councilmen who value fairness and equality to avoid taking part in the tour as well.
