Coalition Talks Between Likud and UTJ Continue

The Likud is continuing coalition talks with United Torah Judaism.
During the latest negotiating session held early this week between representatives of the two parties, UTJ issued a detailed list of all the issues of primary importance to the party as a condition for joining the coalition, including issues related to Shabbos, grave desecration, missionary activity, Foundation Laws, laws related to education and the independence of the chareidi education system, yeshivos ketanos, talmudei Torah and religious services.

A cloak of mourning descended on the Torah and yeshiva world Erev Shabbos Ki Siso as news spread regarding the histalkus of HaRav Boruch Shimon Solomon zt"l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Nachalas Dovid and moro de'asra of Petach Tikva, who passed away unexpectedly that morning at the age of 69.

Government Earmarks NIS 32 Million to Promote Aliyah From FSU

The government has decided to spend NIS 32 million on a program to encourage aliyah from the former Soviet Union in response to a marked decline in the number of immigrants. Last year only 5,700 immigrants moved to Israel from the FSU, which has 900,000 people eligible for Israeli citizenship based on the Law of Return (a large portion of them are not halachically Jewish).
