Nouriel Roubini: Israel Recovering from Crash

by Yated Ne'eman Staff

"Israel is leading the way out of the crisis," said Professor Nouriel Roubini, an economist at New York University who is credited with predicting the deep economic crisis that hit most of the world during the past year. Roubini, an Iranian Jew, is sometimes known as "Dr. Doom" for his gloomy predictions. Roubini recently met with Israel president Shimon Peres at a conference in Italy.

Professor Roubini said that the Israeli economy has proven its stability compared to other countries around the world. "I follow the economic reports about Israel and there is no doubt that Israel is one of the first countries to recover from the recent crisis. He added that he thinks that Bank of Israel head Stanley Fisher is doing a good job.

Roubini agreed with Peres that Israel was helped by its emphasis on investment in technology. "Unfortunately, the tremendous investments in real estate and credit in the US and in Britain, as well as other countries around the world, caused the worldwide crash."
