Vaadas HaRabbonim Lemaan Kedushas HaShabbos Says the Public Is Patronizing Fewer Sites Open on Shabbos

By Yechiel Sever

As the summer vacation begins at many schools, Vaadas HaRabbonim Lemaan Kedushas HaShabbos is asking the general public to recall the notice maranan verabonon issued in Av 5768 (2008) urging the public to avoid recreation and vacation spots that desecrate Shabbos — even if avoidance involves added costs and inconvenience.

Signed by Maran HaRav Eliashiv, the Rosh Yeshiva HaRav Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman, HaRav Shmuel Halevi Wosner, the Admor of Gur and the Admor of Sadigora, the notice called for "all those whose heart is touched by yiras Hashem to avoid going to sites that desecrate Shabbos, despite the added inconvenience and expense involved. This is also a holy call for all yeshiva and seminary managers and vacation and camp organizers, not to visit any place that desecrates Shabbos. Certainly not places where proper modesty arrangements are not in place. Following [these guidelines] will increase kvod Shomayim and kvod Shabbos."

According to Vaadas HaRabbonim the public is showing heightened awareness of the importance of avoiding the chilul Hashem brought about by patronizing Shabbos desecraters, as demonstrated by the many sites around the country that have been joining the list of Shabbos observant sites.

Information regarding shomer Shabbos facilities is available by calling the Shabbos Information Center at 02-640-0160.
