High Court Tries to Interfere With Conversion Case

Once again the High Court has been involved in a bald attempt to interfere in halachic matters, trying to impose secular legal opinions on purely halachic issues. During a hearing early this week High Court judges issued an interim order affecting a psak din handed down at the Rabbinate Beis Din of Jerusalem.

Noam Shalit, father of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit, arrived at the home of Maran HaRav Eliashiv shlita this week to request a brochoh for the speedy return of his son, who has been held captive by Hamas for over three years. Maran gave a brochoh adding, "Certainly every individual should pray for him, because this is a matter of saving a life and redeeming captives."

The members of congregation of Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh, a Moroccan shul on the outskirts of Jerusalem's Pisgat Ze'ev neighborhood, were shocked when they arrived for Shacharis only to find that thieves had broken into the aron kodesh and made off with all six sifrei Torah, shofars, a Megillas Esther and other valuable articles. The gabboim filed a police report, but so far investigators have no leads.

Buenos Aires: Antisemitic Rioting Interrupts Pro-Israel Event

Violent antisemitic demonstrators interrupted an event in Buenos Aires to celebrate 61 years of Israeli independence. Held in Plaza de Mayo opposite City Hall, the event drew members of the Jewish community, local activists and high-ranking city officials.
