Gala Event to Mark Completion of Shmittah Year

Maranan verabonon, roshei yeshivos, rabbonim and dayonim were on hand to mark the end of the Shmittah year at a gala event held at Lev Atzula halls in Petach Tikva on Monday. The event was sponsored by the Institute for Research on Torah-Based Agriculture and Kashrus Lemehadrin's Vaad HaShmittah, which are under the close guidance of Maran HaRav Eliashiv shlita. The numerous participants sat down for a seudas mitzvah with hopes and prayers the next Shmittah year is a Torah obligation and not just a Rabbinical injunction.

The event, which was emceed by Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Rabbi Yitzchok Pindrus, brought together rabbonim, public figures, kashrus supervisors from every kashrus organization, wholesalers and farmers from across the country, who united to thank Hashem Yisborach for the merit of working to enable Shmittah to be kept properly.

The Institute for Torah Research on Torah-Based Agriculture screened a film on its oversight of Shmittah, orloh and terumos uma'aseros.

The main speaker of the evening was HaRav Yosef Efrati, chairman of the Institute and Kashrus Lemehadrin. Speaking in the presence of HaRav Chaim Kanievsky shlita, he discussed of the merit of cleansing Eretz Yisroel of orloh and shevi'is and elaborated on the many challenges the Shmittah year entails.

Other speakers included HaRav Boruch Mordechai Ezrachi, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Ateres Yisroel, and HaRav Yekutiel Abuchatzeira, and letters of support from the Admor of Belz, the Admor of Sadigora and HaRav David Abuchatzeira were read aloud.
