UTJ No-Confidence Motion Over Beitar Illit Construction Freeze Rejected

By Eliezer Rauchberger

The Knesset plenum rejected a no-confidence motion sponsored by UTJ and HaIchud HaLeumi-NRP over the construction freeze in Beitar Illit.

Thirty-five MKs from UTJ, the Likud, Yisrael Beiteinu and HaIchud HaLeumi-NRP backed the motion, while 54 MKs from coalition parties — Kadima, Labor, Shas and Pensioners — voted no, with three MKs from Arab parties abstaining.

Shas explained that it backed the government because PM Ehud Olmert promised them there is no construction freeze in Beitar Illit and none is slated, and in fact building tenders would soon be issued.
