Government Decides to Provide Funding for Chinuch Atzmai Busing Program

By Betzalel Kahn

The government unanimously approved a decision in principle on Sunday to transfer special funding to cover Chinuch Atzmai budget deficits in order to allow the educational network to maintain its operations around the country.

Following a conversation last week with MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni, Education Minister Yuli Tamir agreed to his request to accelerate the funding transfer and instructed the ministry's legal advisor to immediately prepare a proposal to present to the government.

With the assistance of Government Secretary Yisroel Maimon, the paragraph was added to the agenda of this week's cabinet meeting. During the meeting the Education Minister said the ongoing busing crisis at Chinuch Atzmai must come to an end as soon as possible.

Chinuch Atzmai officials expressed hopes following the government decision the funds would indeed be transferred to allow the buses to continue bringing Chinuch Atzmai students to school.
