Over 7,500 Students to Participate in Bnei Brak Summer Camps

By A. Cohen

Over 7,500 students from Bnei Brak Municipality schools and kindergartens will take part in summer camps at the beginning of the summer break. Following last year's high enrollment for various municipal summer camps, Mayor Rabbi Yissochor Frankentahl decided to expand the program to allow more students to participate.

The summer camps at girls' schools, for over 5,000 students, will be run at the schools for all grade levels, with original programs to provide campers maximum enjoyment in a relaxed atmosphere.

Due to the security situation it was decided not to leave the school grounds. All summer camps will have guards on duty in accordance with Education Ministry requirements. The camps are being organized by the Education Department's Youth and Community Section under the directorship of Mrs. Esther Moshkovitz and with the assistance of Rabbi Yissochor Dov Biegel and Mr. Yaakov Solar, city council members and the heads of the Education Department, in cooperation with Bnos Bais Yaakov-Batya.

The activities at the camps will be varied and will include professional performances, puppet shows, unique musical appearances, competitions and special activity days, with emphasis placed on educational and experiential aspects.

All of the counselors, who were selected through interviews and careful screening, are graduates of training courses and seminary students or older. Prospective counselors had to submit working plans and didactic material. The cost of the camp is NIS 175 for twelve days.

The Education Department's Kindergarten Section, directed by Mr. Gavriel Cohen, is organizing summer camps for 2,500 students enrolled at dozens of kindergartens. At the camps for kindergarten girls the activities will focus on drama, workshops, musical enrichment, attention-grabbers, puppet shows, animal exhibits and calisthenics. The cost is NIS 120.
