Talmidim of HaRav Aharon Kotler zt"l Spend Special Shabbos at Lakewood East

by Betzalel Kahn

Alumni, friends and supporters of Yeshivas Lakewood of Jerusalem joined current students on Shabbos Parshas Toldos to mark the yahrtzeit for Maran HaRav Aharon Kotler zt"l. Guests of honor included HaRav Leib Heiman, rov of Beis Knesses HaGra in Bayit Vegan and a talmid muvhok of HaRav Kotler, as well as HaRav Moshe Carlebach and HaRav Osher Winternitz, talmidim of HaRav Kotler who now serve as rabbonim at the yeshiva.

During the course of the Shabbos seudas held in the yeshiva dining hall in Ramot, speakers included the rosh yeshiva HaRav Yaakov Eliezer Schwartzman and his brothers, all grandchildren of HaRav Kotler. The talmidim and avreichim will also hold a siyum of the Shas which they learned during the course of the year as an illui neshomoh for HaRav Kotler. HaRav Yosef Kaufman, a talmid muvhok of HaRav Kotler who came from the US to participate in the event, recounted his rebbe's teachings during Sholosh Seudas.

On Sunday morning the participants visited Maran's gravesite at Har Hamenuchos and in the afternoon his grandson, HaRav Yaakov Eliezer Schwartzman, gave a shiur kloli. Sunday night a memorial gathering attended by HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman was held at the yeshiva in Ramot.
