Rabbonim Reiterate Calls to Avoid Patronizing Sites Open on Shabbos

by Betzalel Kahn

Following advertisements for organized trips to Mini Israel and Chai Keif in Rishon Letzion and advertisements by attractions that desecrate Shabbos such as Keif Tzoba, tractor rides outside of Beit Shemesh, Holiday sailing excursions in Herzeliya and other sites that trample the sanctity of Shabbos in public, the Rabbinical Committee is asking the public to conduct thorough inquiries to ensure that sites keep Shabbos before setting out to visit them.

The dramatic public awakening in the matter of avoiding sites that desecrate Shabbos has led several attractions to keep Shabbos, including Merkavot Latrun, boat trips at Begin Park in South Tel Aviv, Chavat Nokdim in Emek Chefer and Tractoron Hagalil in Kfar Yovel. Maintaining a firm stance will lead other places to close their gates on Shabbos as well.

The Shabbos Information Center says that at Ganei Yehoshua in North Tel Aviv the boat rides and all of the paid rides and attractions desecrate Shabbos. The only Shabbos-observant boat rides in the Tel Aviv Region are at Begin Park, a large recreational facility with enormous grassy areas, a small zoo, playground equipment and a lake with swans, motor boats and pedal boats. Bicycle and electrical-cart rentals are also available.

The rabbonim remind the public not to visit places open on Shabbos Kodesh to avoid lending a hand to the destruction of Shabbos. By standing firm in safeguarding the sanctity of Shabbos we will make a major contribution toward strengthening the walls of Shabbos observance.

For information regarding Shabbos-observant sites call the Shabbos Information Center at 02-5401990 or 057-3110032.
