Considering the terrible mixing [of men and women] on public
buses, Hashem yishmor, which can cause people to
stumble and transgress serious prohibitions chas
vesholom, we alerted the public a decade ago regarding
the need for mehadrin public transportation for the
yirei Hashem sector, to be operated in accordance with
halachic guidelines and the limits of modesty.
Through their extensive efforts, prominent activists in
various locations were able to arrange kosher transportation
for the yirei Hashem public and we hereby applaud them
and encourage them to continue their welcome efforts to
arrange additional mehadrin lines in various parts of
Eretz Hakodesh. All who are in a position to assist
them have an obligation to help in any way possible, and
certainly not to undermine their work chas
vesholom.
And we hereby make known our opinion that when using
mehadrin transportation (interurban and intraurban)
the front portion of the bus should be reserved for men and
the rear portion for women, who should also board through the
rear door, thereby maintaining complete separation. Efforts
should be made not to sit in mixed company (even couples) in
any part of the bus and radios should not be operated.
Yisroel is a holy people and can be relied upon not to breech
this restriction.
And in the merit of upholding the bounds of kedushoh
may we merit the Divine Presence among us and the arrival of
Goel Tzedek speedily, omen, kein yehi rotzon.
