Keep Smiling
Short inspirational pieces by Avrohom Tzvi Schwartz, Kiryat Sefer, author of "A Handful of Light", "Hearts on Fire" and his latest, "Be Happy and Succeed".

Listening

We cannot do much to lengthen our lives. Having a good diet helps. Exercise is also good. Being happy is one of the best tonics of all. Still, there are no guarantees.

But in terms of improving the quality of our lives, here everything — or almost everything — depends on us.

One way we enhance our everyday is with listening.

We need to be careful — where practical — to listen fully to all who speak to us. To give them this gift, this honor. Moreover, we must do this not only for others. We must do it also for ourselves.

We need to listen selflessly — to hear the words, the pauses — to listen to the mouths, the faces, the hands, the hearts, the cries. We need to imagine that within the words we hear is precious advice — advice to make us the happiest, wisest, strongest, wealthiest people in the world.

To listen to others adds new, fascinating dimensions to our lives.
