by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Gedolei Yisroel were to attend a large event held Tuesday night to honor the Torah and its lomdim by announcing the founding of the Beitar Illit branch of Itim LeTorah to increase the number of shiurim available to every stratum of the city's population.

A letter by Maran HaRav Eliashiv was sent to be read aloud along with other letters of support and the central address was given by HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman, shlita. Other speakers included HaRav Shmuel Auerbach, the Gavad of Erlau, the Admor of Biale, HaRav Shabtai Attun and local rabbonim.

Recently a distinguished delegation made a round of visits in the homes of gedolei Yisroel, including the home of HaRav Eliashiv, to invite them to take part in the large event held in Beitar Illit to honor the Torah. Maranan verabonon expressed their pleasure over the initiative to engage in this lofty enterprise, offering their encouragement and blessings for success to those working to promote this holy endeavor. They signed a call to city residents to increase activities promoting Torah study.

The delegation was headed by the mayor Rabbi Yitzchok Pindrus, Vice Mayor Rabbi Meir Rubinstein, Deputy Mayor Rabbi Akiva Ovitz, City Councilman Rabbi Yitzchok Ravitz, and joined by rabbonim and community leaders.

The gathering was at the events hall at Rechov R' Akiva 34 in Beitar Illit and in a large tent erected nearby.
