Destruction of Ancient Graves Continues

By Betzalel Kahn

This week Trans-Israel Highway workers continued to damage the ancient graves along the planned route near Binyamina, and burial caves were also discovered along another section near Yokneam. Company security guards beat dozens of protesters at the site and wounded one with a knife.

During a demonstration on Sunday the avreichim at the site learned that workers from the Antiquities Authority and the construction company commissioned to lay the Trans-Israel Highway had destroyed burial caves further along the route near Yokneam. Dozens of the demonstrators went straight to the second site and attempted to stop the unearthing of the graves. During the course of the protests, company guards, backed by police, attacked the demonstrators. One of the guards even stabbed a demonstrator with a knife. At the hospital he was treated for minor wounds.

The chareidi sector is currently preparing for the possibility of a mass protest rally to decry the destruction of the burial caves being carried out with government sanction.
