by Betzalel Kahn

The ceremony for the R' Aharon Hacohen Foundation's annual Keser Torah and Nezer Horo'oh awards was held Monday night at the Ramat Tamir Hotel in Jerusalem.

The selection of award recipients was based on the recommendations by leading Torah and horo'oh figures after hundreds of candidates from around the country and abroad were evaluated. The Keser Torah recipient was HaRav Akiva Medlov, a talmid of Yeshivas Maoz Chayil and Yeshivas Or Yisroel Petach Tikva, Kollel Beis Shmuel, Kollel HaRav Moshe Gibraltar, Kollel HaRav Don Segal and currently at Kollel HaRav Moshe Shapira in Jerusalem.

The Nezer Horo'oh recipient was HaRav Meir Eliyohu Steinberg, a talmid from Yeshivas Karlin, Kollel Mir, Kollel Beis Hamedrash LeHalocho headed by HaRav Ben Tzion Reich, Kollel Beis Elchonon Dov-Botei Warsaw and currently at Kollel Pressburg in Jerusalem.

The awards ceremony was held on the Chasam Sofer's yahrtzeit and included a ceremony recognizing those who completed the Foundation's five-year program and passed the tests: HaRav Yeshayohu Kosovsky, who completed Keser Torah, and HaRav Elimelech Kornfeld, the recipient of Nezer Horo'oh, who serves as a moreh horo'oh and rov of Kehillas HaGra in Ramat Beit Shemesh.

Also included at the event were divrei hesped for the founder of the Foundation, the Admor of Rimnitz, whose yahrtzeit fell on the same day. R' Avrohom Hacohen was among his close talmidim.

The bill of events also included the annual completion of the Shas. Dozens of avreichim who were tested orally on the entire Shas took part. The project forms yet another building block in the endeavors of Foundation Chairman R' Avrohom Hacohen.
