Morality is Destiny
The economic system of the modern world is based on greed:
everyone is always supposed to try to make as much money as
he or she can. Since, if something is scarce its price will
rise, all resources will always be employed in the most
efficient way as they chase the greater profits brought about
by those high prices. This system is by far the most
successful at creating great wealth.
The Power of the Yetzer Hora: A Shmuess
by HaRav Sholom Schwadron, zt'l
Between parshas Chayei Soroh and parshas Bo,
(until the parsha, "this month is the beginning of the
months for you"), each parshoh affords us
contemplation of the behavior of tzaddikim and,
conversely, of reshoim. This is all part of the
principle that, "He told His people about the power of His
deeds" (Tehillim 111:6), as explained in parshas
Bereishis. In this parshoh, we witness the
greatness of Avrohom Ovinu on the one hand, and the conduct
of Efron on the other.
Parshas Toldos: A Conversation That Changed History
by Rabbi Yechezkel Spanglet
There are conversations all the time. But in this week's
parsha, a dialogue took place which changed
history.
Yaakov was preparing a lentil stew on the day of the death of
his grandfather Avrohom. Eisov entered from the follies of
the field. He had a busy day. He had committed murder,
immorality, and denied the belief in techiyas hameisim
and Olom Habo. Now he was famished.
Don't Speak Loshon Hora About Eretz Yisroel
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
It was some thirteen years ago that the tzaddik HaRav
Dov Sokolovsky zt'l was niftar in Yerushalayim.
He was the favorite son-in-law of the revered rov of Mir in
Lithuania, HaRav Avrohom Tzvi Kamai Hy'd, who died
al kiddush Hashem. The unassuming R' Dov lived a rich
life of ninety years imbued with Torah and chesed.
