NIS 132 Million Spent on Food for Simchas

Wedding halls, other catered facilities and catering companies spend NIS 132 million ($28 million) per year on food, according to a special survey conducted by the Israel Manufacturers' Association.

According to the survey NIS 25 million ($5 million) was spent on 9 million liters (2.4 million gallons) of soft drinks and another NIS 20 million ($4.2 million) was spent on liquor.

The survey also showed NIS 13 million ($3 million) went towards the purchase of 25 million rolls, NIS 12 million ($2.4 million) was spent on cold cuts and NIS 11 million ($2.6 million) was spent on beer. The two million liters (530,000 gallons) of cooking oil used cost NIS 7 million ($1.5 million). NIS 6 million ($1.3 million) was used to buy two million loaves of bread and another NIS 1 million ($200,000) to buy two million pitas. NIS 4.5 million ($950,000) was spent on 730,000 kilograms (1.6 million pounds) of ice cream.

According to the survey 29,000 weddings are held annually where 8.7 million guests are served. Another 9 million guests are served at the 60,000 bar mitzvah ceremonies held annually and nearly 7 million guests are served at the 68,000 annual bris ceremonies held.
