OPINION & COMMENT

Who is Responsible?

Now that it has joined the worldwide fight against terror, the Palestinian Authority decided that it must ensure that there are no big demonstrations in support of master terrorist Osama Bin Laden. The Palestinian street, however, is upset that the Americans are trying to catch him. They support the ideas he expresses and, apparently, the tactics he favors. Thus, last week there was a very large demonstration in support of Bin Laden in Gaza and in several other places.

Hakheil: A Re-enactment
by Rabbi Yosef Levinson

Every seven years, following the observance of Shemitta, the Torah commands us to gather for the mitzvah of Hakheil. On the first day of chol hamoed Succos, the entire Jewish nation -- men, women and children -- gathered in the Beis Hamikdash to hear the king of Israel read the Torah.

Our Father's Suffering
by HaRav Avrohom HaKohen Pam zt"l

[The following is based on the speech of HaRav Pam at the opening session of the American Agudas Yisroel convention six years ago. HaRav Yitzchok Silberstein, rav of Ramat Elchonon, said at the time that every avreich should read it. It is unfortunately very true still in our times.

Man and His Generation
by R' Avrohom Shaul Skakalsky Hy'd
Yeshivas Novardok-Bialystok

"Noach was a righteous man in his generations."

Rashi brings the divided opinions of our Sages regarding Noach. Some maintain that his righteousness was absolute; others, that it was relative to his generation. If, in his generation, which was wicked enough to warrant total annihilation, he maintained his righteousness, how much greater would he have been in the generation of Avrohom!
