A Doctor's Reaction to the Awful Results
by Dr. Joseph Leibman, Director Emergency Services Maayenei Hayeshua Hospital

I walked out of the emergency department this week in a daze. The holy victims of Emanuel were still in the department. I had heard about the terrorists attacks in the past but this time I was there. In one room was an eleven year old girl on a respirator. She was unresponsive, and may stay that way. In another room was a mother of children who appeared to be mortally injured. Yes we received all types of training in medical school about how to stay detached and cool; about how not to let our emotions get in the way. But when I got home, and saw my own eleven year old daughter who doesn't even know what a respirator is and my own wife, another mother of many children, I lost it. I cried and cried until there was nothing left. Not only in my heart but in my soul.

To the victims I have no words. I just keep going in this period of terrible events knowing how precious every drop of blood, every tear, and ever prayer is to our Maker.

My brothers, we must not lose hope. Eichah reminds us that Hashem's love will never cease. We taught the world all it knows about morality; we will teach them about the strength of conviction as well.
