HaRav Levi Bistritzky, zt"l
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

HaRav Levi Bistritzky, zt"l, rav of Tzfas, was niftar early Sunday morning, 19 Menachem Av, in the Sieff Hospital in Tzfas. HaRav Bistritzky was 54 at the time of his petiroh. A large thong participated in his levaya which proceeded to the cemetery in Tzfas on Sunday afternoon.

HaRav Bistritzky suffered from chest pains last Tuesday (14 Av) and was hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the hospital in Tzfas. During the week, he underwent a catheterization in his heart, and remained in the hospital for observation.

On Friday (17 Av) HaRav Bistritzky's family was involved in a minor car accident after returning from the bris of his first grandchild. His daughter was injured and hospitalized in the Hillel Yaffeh hospital in Chadera. Those close to him say that he was very upset over his inability to participate in the bris of his first grandchild. Early Sunday morning, his strength failed him and he was niftar.

He is survived by his parents, his wife, seven sons, a daughter and a grandchild. His father, Leibel Bistritzky, had a well-known food store on Essex Street on the Lower East Side of New York City for many years.
