OPINION
& COMMENT
Bad Palestinians and Good Palestinians
It has become increasingly difficult to distinguish between
the political leadership of the Palestinian people and the
wild terrorists. All of the senior leaders -- Bargouti,
Dahlan, Rajoub and the others -- are deeply involved in the
daily terror. Even Yasser Arafat himself, the immediate
commander of Force 17, is apparently sending out murder
squads to shoot and bomb indiscriminately.
The Prohibition of Legal Actions in Non-halachic Courts
(Arko'os)
by Rav Elyakum Devorkes
Suppose that you have witnessed a traffic accident between
two cars and one of the drivers asks you to give formal
testimony in front of an Israeli court in proceedings run
according to non-Jewish law. Are you allowed to do this?
Progress is Overworking People
By Nosson Zeev Grossman
"People are spending too much time surfing the internet,
gradually becoming removed from social life, and totally
alienated to the point of severing themselves from reality."
This is what a new research study in the U.S.A. claims.
Soul Restoring
by L. Jungerman
"Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there
shall be to you a holy day, a Sabbath of rest to Hashem."
In the piyutim of the Yomim Noraim we depict our
paucity most graphically. "Man is founded from earth and to
earth does he return. He procures his bread with his very
soul." At the expense, the sacrifice of his very life.
Disunity in the Unity Government
by E. Rauchberger
Sharon's "unity government" is far from united. The unity
government of 10-15 years ago numbered close to 100 Knesset
members, while Sharon's government barely has 72 MKs. A
narrow coalition with about half an inch to spare. Even
Barak had 80 MKs in the coalition to start with, and his
government was not bulging at the seams like the present
government.
Even More Respect
by Chaim Walder
A friend and I have been carrying on a debate for years on
the issue of what motivates people to act (lehavdil
from the spiritual motivation to do Hashem's Will). My
friend claims that there are two human motives: money and
honor.
Bid Yerushalayim take Heart
by L. J.
Three months ago a huge demonstration took place outside the
walls of the old city under the banner of "I pledge
allegiance to Jerusalem." When it comes to the topic of
Yerushalayim, anti-religious politicians suddenly become
favorably disposed towards tradition and religion. However,
for them it is not so much a matter of holy Jerusalem as
Jerusalem of Gold!
