Mass Aliyah is No Goal

Prime minister Sharon has been very free with declarations of intent in the weeks before he actually took office, and he has informed us of his goals and plans in many areas. One of these that is of special interest to most of the English- speaking Jewish world is the subject of aliya -- moving to Eretz Yisroel.

Teshuvos About Kiruv Rechokim
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

At one of the gatherings organized by Lev L'Achim, an opportunity was given for volunteers from all over Israel who have a more local orientation, to ask questions from the posek, HaRav Yitzchok Zilberstein. Despite Everything, It is Purim!
By HaRav Mordechai Shmuel Krull

HaRav Mordechai Shmuel Krull zt'l, the first rav of Kfar Chassidim (Rechasim) in northern Eretz Yisroel (and formerly rav and av beis din of Zurevitz and Novogrod-Sovarsk in Russia) wrote this essay before Purim in the midst of the dreadful churban of Europe -- but its relevance is evident for us too. He urges the reader to learn from Megillas Esther the lesson of bitochon that Hashem will save us.

Behind the Miracles
To the Editor:

Having also been a witness to the 1996 Dizengoff Center bomb ("An Unrecognized Miracle from Erev Purim 5756, 7 Adar), as well as the October 1994 Dizengoff bus bomb and the 1997 Purim Apropos Cafe bomb, the horror of the concussion and of seeing with one's own eyes suddenly ruined bodies, vehicles and buildings is a frightful experience.

Calling All South Africans
To the Editor:

This is a message to all South Africans who lived in the small country communities. Since coming to Israel seven years ago I have been writing stories about my days in these places. They have been well received. Many readers have called me to say that they paint a picture that was unknown to them. It occurred to me that these communities have disappeared and only our memories remain. By collecting these memories, the history of these unique communities could be preserved.

Politica
by E. Rauchberger

The next government will be overstaffed by all standards. According to indications, 28-30 ministers will serve, along with another ten deputy ministers, while the coalition will include no more than 85 Knesset members. The result is that one-third of Knesset members (40 out of 120), and more than half of the members of the new coalition (if Knesset committee heads and the Knesset chairman are added to the list of jobholders) will hold posts.

Shulamit Aloni: "We were taught to see Diaspora Jews as Human Dust"
by S. Yisraeli

In cutting remarks about Diaspora rejection ingrained in Zionist education, Shulamit Aloni, a member of the generation that grew up on these values, wrote last week about "nationalist education," which has left its mark in a variety of areas.

The fighting has not let up as Ariel Sharon puts together his new government. Senior Police commanders decided at an emergency meeting after Sunday's Netanya suicide-bombing on ways to foil future terrorist attacks inside Israel.
