An Ordinary, Exciting Life
Last week the U.S. F.B.I. announced the arrest of Robert
Philip Hanssen on charges of spying for the Soviet Union
(and later Russia) for over 15 years. Hanssen was a trusted
and high- level FBI counterintelligence agent with access to
almost every intelligence secret that the United States
government possesses. He used his trust and his access to
turn over tremendous amounts of very secret, high quality
information in exchange for money and diamonds.
Teshuvos About Kiruv Rechokim
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
At one of the gatherings organized by Lev L'Achim, an
opportunity was given for volunteers from all over Israel
who have a more local orientation, to ask questions from the
posek, HaRav Yitzchok Zilberstein. Herewith are some
of the questions and the answers given to them, told in
HaRav Zilberstein's engaging style.
Purim: Between Mordechai and Homon
by HaRav Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg
On Purim we have an obligation to drink wine until we no
longer recognize the difference between Homon who is cursed
and Mordechai who is blessed. When considering this
halachah, it is difficult to understand. It is so unusual
and so out of character -- a need to become drunk, and
drunken to the state of not knowing the difference between
Mordechai who is blessed and Homon who is cursed.
"And He Established Them Forever More"
by L. Jungerman
"Acacia trees standing -- that endure everlastingly,
forevermore" (Midrash).
In Yalkut Shimoni, Divrei Hayomim (1:1085), Chazal
say that Hashem transmitted the charter of the Beis
Hamikdosh to Moshe Rabbenu while standing, as it is written,
"And you shall stand here with Me."
Respect and More Respect
by Chaim Walder
A well known educator once taught me how to transform
certain children into liars and cheats. "It's a very simple
`educational' venture," he said. "The moment a parent or
teacher casts aspersion on what a child tells him,
interrogates him and lets him know that he suspects him of
lying, the child becomes aware of the possibility of saying
something untrue.
Love of My Fellow Jews
by Rabbi Avi Shafran
I can't say that it came as a surprise to hear that an
uproar resulted in some circles from my recent article in
Moment Magazine showing how the Conservative
movement's theology is at stark odds with its actions, and
calling on members of its laity to reevaluate their
identification with a movement faithful to Jewish religious
law (halacha) in name alone.
"Meoros HaDaf HaYomi" Insights into the Week's Learning
To the Editor:
I read the article on the Beis Yisroel miracle and I would
like to tell over a true story relating to the Dizengoff
bombing on erev Purim, 5756.
Politica Banished from Politics

Ehud Barak is heading for home, and this time for good,
although Barak has repeatedly demonstrated that with him,
nothing is ever final. After having entrenched the concept
of flip-flopping into the political establishment, this time
it seems he has done his last flip-flop.
