What's Cooking?
Au Pear

by Chedva Sternfeld

Pears are in season now, not expensive, very healthful, and they make an excellent dessert. 100 gram pears contain only 42 calories, just like apples.

Dessert No. 1

INGREDIENTS

Half a kilo pears

50 gram margarine (quarter package)

3/4 cup sugar or sweetner equivalent

100 gram raisins

1 package Osem jello, pineapple flavor

INSTRUCTIONS:

Peel the pears and halve them lengthwise. Remove the center core.

Place the cleaned pears in an ovenproof dish and cover with sugar. Scatter the raisins among the pears.

Cut the margarine into small cubes and scatter on top. Mix the jello with 2-3 cups water and pour over the pear mixture.

Bake in preheated oven, 180 degrees C., for about half an hour or until pears test soft. Serve hot in decorative glass dessert dishes.

Recipe No. 2

INGREDIENTS

4 medium pears

1 tablespoon melted margarine

2 tablespoons oats

1 1/2 tablespoons sugar

lemon juice, cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS

Peel pears and cube. Lay in overproof baking dish, slightly oiled.

Sprinkle a little sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice.

In a separate bowl, mix the melted margarine with the oats and rest of sugar to a coarse crumb consistency. Sprinkle this over the pears and bake at medium heat until they turn light brown. Serve hot.
