Looking Beyond the New President

The entire office is far from us in spirit and content. The fact that there is a President of the State of Israel is a result of the converging of the interests of those who wanted to express their perception of the State as the modern heir of the "Jewish tradition of royalty," and the political needs of Ben Gurion, the first prime minister of Israel, to find a job for his political rival, Chaim Weitzman, where he could do Ben Gurion no harm.

by Yochonon Dovid

I once chanced upon the booklet "Back to the Source" and found it to be an astounding piece of work. "And you shall love Hashem your G-d . . . and with all your soul -- Rashi: Even if He claims your soul . . . "

Rabbenu Elozor Azkari zy'o explains in Sefer HaChareidim, chapter 9, that the commandment of "With all your soul" is a daily exercise. "One should ponder it when he recites the Shema and reaches the words "bechol nafshecho" and "bechol nafshechem."

The Media Take Over
by N. Ze'evi

Prime Minister Ehud Barak's failure at Camp David has aroused sharp criticism from members of his own party. And the press even went as far as to quote senior ministers and party officials who were angry at the way in which Barak conducted the negotiations.
