How Will the Pope's Words be
Implemented?
Apparently in preparation for his trip this week to the Holy
Land, the first full visit by a leader of the Roman Catholic
millions, Pope John Paul II prayed that "in recalling the
sufferings endured by the people of Israel throughout
history, Christians will acknowledge the sins committed by
not a few of their number against the people of the Covenant
. . ."
Principles of Education
by HaRav Nosson Einfeld
HaRav Einfeld explained the tremendous obligation that an
educator has toward his students. He is like a paid
shomer who is constantly on duty, like Noach who had
to feed the animals in the teivah night and day. R'
Yeruchom compared it to the poles of the Oron Hakodesh in the
Mishkan: they had to constantly be in their supportive role
of the Oron. He is given the tools to teach his students
properly, and is held to a high standard of success.
Furthermore, the teacher must be filled with love for his
students.
Our Ideal is Torah Studies and not
Secular Learning
by Rabbi Nosson Zeev Grossman
A few months ago Israeli newspapers reported that the
"Israeli Board of Higher Education has launched a new
initiative: Providing chareidim with an academic education in
the aim of encouraging them to join the country's work
market."
May We Find Favor and Good Sense

"And he shall rest his hands upon the head of the burnt
offering and it shall be accepted from him to atone for
him."
Real Halacha and Purim
Halacha
by Rav Nochum Eisenstein
It seems that we live in a generation known as achshero
doro -- a fit generation that fulfills mitzvos. The last
decade saw a tremendous worldwide increase in the use of the
term glatt kosher. Signs of glatt kosher
started appearing on all kinds of eating establishments, many
of them in such places that it is questionable whether one
may even enter the premises because of their undesirable
atmosphere.
They Also Don't Want to Live with
Arabs
by N. Ze'evi
Recently, the Israeli High Court ruled that it is illegal to
prevent Arabs from purchasing land in a Jewish settlement.
This paved the way for the Ka'aden family from Baqa-el Garbia
to approach the Israel Lands Administration regarding the
purchase of a plot of land in the Jewish settlement of
Katzir.
Big Time Salaries in the Halls of
Higher Education
by N. Ze'evi
For the first time in the history of the State, accountants
will examine seven sport associations, according to an Itim
news agency report. The associations to be investigated are:
the Wingate Institute, the Olympic Committee, the Football
Association, the Swimming Federation, the Athletics
Association, the Handball Association and the Fund for
outstanding Athletes. The investigation will be conducted by
outside accountants who will examine the business dealing,
the financial situation and the management of the accounts of
these groups.
A Symbol of Self-Hatred
by P. Chovav
Israeli society is not known as one that is
particularly considerate of the feelings of others,
especially when it comes to religious Jews. The public could
have been spared many confrontations and struggles had an
attitude of respect and appreciation of one's fellow
prevailed. But as is known, this is not the case.
