Bnei Brak Awards for Torah Literature

A gala ceremony at which the Bnei Brak Awards for Torah literature were distributed was recently held in Bnei Brak. The ceremony took place in memory of the founder of Bnei Brak, Rabbi Yitzchok Gerstenkorn, in honor of his 33rd yahrtzeit.

The awards were given to the authors of seforim composed during the past the year which had received no other prizes. Members of the awards committee were: HaRav Boruch Dov Povarsky, one of the roshei yeshiva of Ponevezh; HaRav Yeshayahu Goldschmidt, av beis din of Tel Aviv; HaRav Menachem Mendel Shafran, a dayan in the Gerrer chassidic community of Bnei Brak and rosh yeshiva of Noam HaTorah and HaRav Shlomo Ben Shimon, a member of the Supreme Rabbinical Court.

This year's prizes were awarded to: HaRav Simcha Zissel Broide, rosh yeshiva of the Chevron Yeshiva and a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah, for his series on the Torah and on Ramban, arranged and compiled according to his shiurim by Rav Yaakov Yehuda Zilberlicht; HaRav Yitzchok Goldshtof of Jerusalem's Mirrer Kollel for his Mikdosh Hakodesh on the laws of the vessels of the mikdosh; HaRav Mordechai Shraga Heisler of the kollel of HaRav Zolty and HaRav Garbuz, for Darkei Ora on the order of the avoda; HaRav Arye Mordechai Wurtzberger, of Bnei Brak's Vishnitz Kollel and a moreh tzedek, for Refidaso Zohov on the laws of interest; HaRav Yechiel Avrohom Zilber of the Ponevezh Kollel and author of the halachos in the Yated luach, for Beirur Halocho, part five on the four sections of the Shulchan Oruch; HaRav Pinchas Markson, of the Gerrer Kollel of Kiryat Herzog for Ben Chayil, containing chiddushim on Bava Metzia; HaRav Avrohom Yeshaya Fein, ram in Yeshivas HaRan in Ramot, Jerusalem, for Eifas Tzedek on interest (This is the second time he has won this prize.); HaRav Eliezer Roth, member of the Ponevezh Kollel for Siach Chochmah, Part One, on Chanukah and Purim, and Part Two, containing various chiddushim.

Warm words in praise of the entire endeavor and in memory of the illustrious founder of Bnei Brak were delivered by HaRav Boruch Dov Povarsky as well as by Rabbi Mordechai Karelitz, mayor of the city and by Rabbi Avrohom Tannenbaum, Municipal secretary and spokesman. HaRav Eliezer Roth spoke in the name of the prize recipients and Rabbi Gerstenkorn's grandson, Rav Arye Gerstenkorn, rav of Kiryat Malachi, spoke for the family.

HaRav Yoel Tobias, rav of Bnei Brak's Shikun Vov, Rav Aaron Chodosh, the menahel ruchani of the Mirrer Yeshiva, and HaRav Shlomo Steinmentz, rosh kollel of the Vishnitzer Kollel, participated in the awarding of the prizes.
