Major Finance Reform Proposal

Last Thursday the committee headed by Treasury Director- General Avi Ben-Bassat published its long awaited plans for reform of the tax system and capital markets of Israel. On Sunday the government approved the plan but set up a special Cabinet committee to discuss the package and suggest changes. Finance Minister Shohat, who is a member of the committee, said that he would work to ensure that the changes are minor.

Protest Against Bogus IDF Rabbinate Conversions and Netiv

This past chol hamoed Pesach, "Shai," the Organization for the Preservation of the Jewish Identity of Israel, organized two demonstrations. One was held in front of the offices of the IDF Rabbinate in Tel Aviv, while the other was held opposite the offices of Netiv. The demonstrators protested against the IDF Rabbinate's performance of fictitious "conversions" and Netiv's granting immigration permits to masses of non-Jews from the C.I.S.

Airline Ticket Prices May Rise Due To Tower Air Collapse

Charter flight operators in Israel must post bank guarantees with the Civil Airport Administration in the event that a flight doesn't materialize so that the Administration can provide alternate tickets in such cases, to protect consumers. This agreement was concluded after the relatively unruly charter market caused a number of Israelis to be stranded in foreign airports.

Worldwide Protest Against Indecent Advertising
