Action Against Offensive Advertisements

by B. Rabinowitz

The Nationwide Committee for the Prevention of Indecent Advertising in Eretz Hakodesh has announced that Maxi Media, the umbrella company that controls most of the public advertising in the streets and on the buses, took immediate steps to correct the problems of tsnius that were identified. As a result there will be no action taken against Maxi Media, nor its subsidiaries and affiliates including Telrof, Galgalei Zahav, Avudi, Nur, Kavei Zahav and Dapei Zahav.

Committee offices received numerous complaints against Telrof, which had begun to display ads which did not abide by even the most minimal terms agreed on by the Committee. The companies seriously deviated from the agreed- upon guidelines and by doing so have caused tremendous public damage.

The Committee proceeded in accordance with the guidelines of maranan verabonon the gedolei haTorah and poskim.

In the past, similar battles have proven that all sectors of the chareidi community are in full accord on this issue, which touches the core of its existence. The chareidi community, as well as all chareidi stores and supermarkets, heed the instructions of the rabbonim.
